If you’re a golfer, you’ve no doubt seen these shirts around. They bring that fresh yet familiar vibe with their style, and with a name that gets stuck in your head: Criquet (pronounced “Cricket” by the way).
And Criquet is basically what happens when two kids from the Northeast become two dudes from Austin and then start a lifestyle brand. Of course it’s a bit more intricate than that, but you get the idea, as do the hordes of people already wearing their stuff.
The Brand
Criquet was founded in 2010 by Hobson Brown and Billy Nachman, who have been friends since kindergarten at a school on New York’s Upper East Side. As adults they eventually found themselves in the land of live music, cold beer and tacos – aka Austin, Texas – and looking to do something interesting. And that “something” turned into the pursuit of what they have described as “the perfect shirt and all things anti-ordinary.”
And since they are both golfers but also fathers of young children, they wanted to make something for guys like them. And sure enough, Criquet shirts are easily worn from the course to the pool to the barbecue – a quality that’s often advertised among brands, but not always a legitimate claim like it is here.
The Shirts
With an emphasis on organic cottons and fair labor practices as a starting off point, Criquet has evolved through the years to offer a wide variety of shirts for different types of people, while staying consistent with the brand’s overall aesthetic.
For starters, the Stretch Players shirt is made from a 100% Cotton Pique that moves when you move, but is also breathable and machine washable. While the Players Performance Jersey shirt is made with a blend of fabrics to help bring moisture wicking and a hint of stretch to your game. But of course both come complete with the left chest pocket, button closure and removable collar stays.
There’s also the Performance Sport Players shirt that is super lightweight with stretchy 100% performance fabric for maximum ease of wear. It comes in fun colors like Watermelon and also a full lineup of Heather options as well.
For some more fun options, Criquet also offers shirts like the Limited Edition Tie Dye Players shirt and the Limited Edition Azalea shirt. And for that ultimate dad move around the pool, there are a few different looks in the TerryCloth shirt.
Some others worth mentioning include the Sunwashed Polo shirt, which offers an extra laid back look and feel with a t-shirt style curved shirttail and made with 100% cotton slub. And also the Performance Sport Range shirt, which is great if you love a high-quality shirt but don’t always need the left chest pocket.
Criquet has also expanded with some very cool outerwear options, along with hats and shorts as well. All of which bring the cool and quality factors you would expect if you’ve ever tried on one of their shirts.
And speaking of which, if this isn’t proof enough that one shirt can literally cover you for a full day of fun on and away from the course, the next step is to just go ahead and try one on. An experience best done with cold beer, live music and tacos.
