As Temps Drop It’s All About Transitional Layering on the Course

As Temps Drop It’s All About Transitional Layering on the Course

It may not feel like it just yet where you’re at, but fall temperatures are starting to creep their way onto golf courses, especially in the early mornings and evenings. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to put the sticks away for the season, nor do you need to pull out that nice cashmere pullover that you got for Christmas last year already. What it does mean, however, is that it’s time to start exploring transitional styles for the season ahead.

Crisp mornings. Warm days. That all sounds lovely – and it is – but it’s not always easy to prepare for when planning a golf outing. So one thought is that you’ll want to layer up and then layer down, which can be done with things like vests and light quarter zip pullovers. And along with that comes luxury layering, meaning the more exceptionally light, soft and breathable the fabrics in your layers are, the more ideal it is for the season. Here are a few examples to help get you layered up in all the right ways.

Vests, Please

Vests haven’t just become cool again, they’ve become essential for golfers with features like pockets, two-way zippers and just the right amount of warmth. That’s why all of your favorite brands offer their own version. Some highlights include the G/FORE Quilted Hybrid Stretch Vest, made to keep your core warm when the temp starts to drop; the Peter Millar Contour Vest uses an ultra-lightweight fabric that is the most flexible developed by Peter Millar; and the Trailwolf Vest from Greyson has the looks and the function that you need.

And because we just can’t get enough vests, we also had to mention a few other different looks in that department. The Pinnacle Vest by Extracurricular is a stylish second layer with a contrast coverstitch and quarter zip mock neckline. The Cliff Light Down Vest from J. Lindeberg is mostly polyester and filled with 700 fill power down so it's lightweight and very compressible. And if you’re looking for a way to try out one of those new up-and-coming golf brands you keep hearing about, Eastside Golf’s Tech Vest features lightweight, breathable fabric and a contemporary look with practical function.

Quarter Zips: 100% Awesome

Sorry vests, but sometimes people want sleeves with their outerwear. And when it comes to transitional layering, that means lightweight quarter zip pullovers like the Italian Melange Quarter Zip from G/FORE made with polyester. The Peter Millar Stealth Performance Quarter Zip is a sleek, lightweight option with performance fabric, four-way stretch, moisture wicking properties and UV protection. And the Airflow Pullover from RLX Golf helps keep the skin cool and features Colorblock detailing for a fashionable finish.

Don’t Forget About the Lightweight Hoodie!

One of the most versatile and comfortable pieces in outerwear – and transitional layering for that matter – has been the lightweight hoodies. RLX Golf’s Lounge Jersey Hoodie is mostly recycled polyester, and helps allow freedom of movement. And the Pine Performance Hoodie from Peter Millar features a signature polyester fabric with a smooth front and a micro-waffle back for softness and breathability, finished with raglan sleeves and clean banded cuffs.

Ladies Need Layers Too

When it comes to transitional layers for women, RLX Golf has some great options including the Tech Terry Vest, with full zip closure for easy removal as the weather warms up. It also has a raised collar for additional coverage, an elastic waist and pockets. There is also the Nylon Interlock Short Sleeve Quarter Zip from G/FORE, with a quick-drying fabric and an interlock knit that moves with you, plus short sleeves for a full range of swing motion. You can always keep it colorful this fall too, with the Mock Neck Top from IBKUL, a quarter zip that features patented Iceƒil technology, converting sweat to lower your temperature.

Hopefully this will help give you some transitional layering ideas as your golf game transitions into the next season. See you on the course!
