Radmor Golf: Making Sustainability Cool

Building a successful golf apparel brand isn’t easy. Building one while creating less impact on the environment with products that are made sustainably is even harder. But that’s exactly what Radmor Golf has managed to do since officially launching in January of 2020, quickly gaining traction in the golf world and beyond for its approach to sustainability, and for designing hip clothes that look great on and off the golf course.

Here’s a look at how Radmor came together and what the brand is doing to take care of every golfer’s main playing field – aka our planet.

A Rad Duo

Radmor Golf was co-founded by two friends and former college roommates at the University of Washington, Scott Morrison and Bob Conrad. After college, Morrison went on to work in fashion in New York City where he specialized in denim companies, while Conrad played professional golf on various mini tours. The pair eventually came back together and decided to start a golf apparel brand, ultimately launching at a time when golf’s popularity was beginning to soar courtesy of the COVID bump, when hoards of new people were picking up the game for the first time.

Sustaining with Sustainability

The approach for Radmor was envisioning a future where golfers are outfitted with recycled fabrics and natural, biodegradable materials. And they did this by first focusing on the impact that clothes make on the environment over the course of being manufactured, and then adjusting their strategies accordingly.

For instance, they like to point out that one of the most common fabrics found in golf clothes, polyester, takes many decades to decompose due to its plastic components, and is therefore considered harmful to the environment. So instead Radmor prioritizes more natural fibers like BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) Organic and ELS (Extra-Long Staple) Peruvian Pima cotton. And when they do go synthetic, they make sure to use certified recycled polyester made from plastic bottles, or recycled nylon made from fishing nets.

Taking things another step further is a program they introduced called RAD-Cycling, where customers can give back their clothes at the end of their lifecycle, which are then either up-cycled with mending and repair, or recycled in an effort to reduce material consumption in the future.

Meet BobRad

The official Radmor logo is a simple ball and cup design found under the letter “O” in the brand name and on the back shoulder of a lot of their garments. But perhaps the more recognizable and popular logo goes by the name BobRad – a reference to Bob Conrad’s college nickname – which represents a more mischievous and playful side to the brand. And while some think BobRad looks like some sort of flying saucer, it is actually a golf ball peeking out of a cup, and it’s becoming synonymous with high-quality, sustainable golf apparel more and more as the brand continues to grow.

Get Ready to Look Rad(mor)

Along with the standard golf polo in a variety of styles and designs, Radmor offers things like pants, shorts and t-shirts (with tees some influenced by popular culture).

They also have some great outerwear options that include performance jackets and vests, crewneck sweatshirts, hoodies, quarter-zips and a few cashmere offerings in both the cardigan and hoodie styles.

And, considering that co-founder Morrison is considered a pioneer of premium denim in the U.S., it's only natural that Radmor just launched their own line of denim jeans in three different looks, which they claim are “probably the most comfortable five pocket jean ever made.”

Radmor also offers a bunch of different accessories including industry standards like hats, beanies, headcovers, ball markers and socks. And if you’re the type of golfer who’s going to throw on your favorite vinyl album when you get home from the course, Radmor also sells various slipmats for your turntable because, why not?

Now You Can Be a ‘Citizen of the Game’

Once you’ve geared up with Radmor, you will be one step closer to being what they like to call, a Citizen of the Game. Because this brand is less about fitting in at your country club, and more about being dedicated to the sport of golf and being a citizen of the Earth – which is every golfer’s playground. This is shown in the decisions you make as a golfer and a consumer, and even as a business owner and beyond. And seeking out clothes that are more sustainable is a great first step.

Official Citizens of the Game, according to the Radmor website, include PGA Tour pro Kevin Chappell – who once shot a 59 in a tournament! – along with Korn Ferry Tour member RJ Manke, former Pac-12 Champion Noah Woolsey, and golf writer/podcast host Dylan Deither, among others. Will you be next?
