Viktor Hovland Ready to Turn Heads at the Year’s First Major, Again

A top ten finish at last year’s Masters Tournament was probably only the second-most compelling thing Viktor Hovland put on display that week in Augusta. Because from the moment he stepped onto the course on Thursday he captured the attention of, well, pretty much everyone with his clothes.

He kicked things off with a limited edition Bright Pink Tour Floral Polo from J.Lindeberg’s Tour Collection on the tournament’s first day, and stirred up plenty of noise in the golf world with it. Much of that reaction was split in how people felt about the colorful azalea-inspired top, but a J. Lindeberg representative did confirm that the polo had sold out around the globe by 4pm on that Thursday. So clearly all the attention – good or bad – certainly paid off. And it probably helped that Hovland also shot a 65 and was tied for the lead after day one.

This year the world’s fourth-ranked player will have all eyes on him entering Augusta, and it appears that his golf won’t be the only reason yet again. That’s because J. Lindeberg has announced a second drop of this year’s Tour Collection ahead of the first major, a collection that is once again inspired by the azalea – or more specifically, Augusta National’s 13th hole which is called “Azalea.” Only this time the azaleas, especially on the Thursday and Sunday selections, are more pronounced and photorealistic, as opposed to what some described as a splatter paint or watercolor appearance used for last year’s design.

Also advancing the look for this second drop of the Tour Collection is the black base color for the line instead of white, letting the azaleas really shine – or should we say blossom? – on the polo and the pullover as well.

There will also be two days – Friday and Sunday – that are more on the toned down side with the azalea pattern in black and white. And other than just a little bit of a green from an azalea stem on Thursday’s polo, that color is absent this year altogether. Although green would look nice as a “jacket” over Hovland’s Sunday polo. Just sayin’.

J. Lindeberg is a Swedish brand that has been around since the late 1990s. They signed Hovland, who was born and raised in Norway and played golf at Oklahoma State, shortly after he turned professional in 2019. Hovland has three PGA Tour victories and is considered one of the best young players without a major.

The 2024 Masters Tournament kicks off on Thursday, April 11th.
